“This is one of the best satellites in the world and a significant scientific achievement. Head of the Belarusian Academy of Sciences about the new Belarusian-Russian satellite

Vladimir Gusakov, chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) of Belarus, said that a new Belarusian-Russian satellite will be ready by the end of next year.

“The satellite is expected to be fully ready by the end of next year. Now the enterprises have been given the task to prepare imaging equipment and component base,” Gusakova said. According to him, we are talking about the creation of the newest satellite with a resolution of 0.35 m when imaging from space. “It is one of the world’s best satellites and a significant scientific achievement. The preliminary design has been developed, agreed and approved. Agreements have been signed,” said the head of the Belarusian Academy of Sciences. – Also during the visit of the head of state to the Russian Federation [в апреле] we separately agreed on the nuances and issues of cost, equipment, and timing.

Gusakov noted that the equipment and software will be Belarusian-made. According to him, Roscosmos has a very strict schedule for launching satellites, including manned rockets. “It is difficult to squeeze into this schedule, but we have been told it won’t be a problem,” said the head of the National Academy of Sciences. – The Belarusian satellite will go [в космос] together with the Russian one.”

The current Belarusian remote sensing satellite has been operating in a joint Russian-Belarusian orbital constellation since its launch in 2012. Its original lifespan was for five years, but it was later extended to 2025.
