The latest Windows 11 and Windows 10 updates could “break” Chrome, Edge and Firefox browsers

Microsoft has released updates to Windows 11 and Windows 10 as part of its traditional monthly “Patch Tuesday” updates. According to user feedback, these updates can cause glitches in popular browsers.

Some users who have installed the update complain about not being able to launch Chrome, Edge, or Firefox. The error appears when users try to run Chrome.exe, msedge.exe and Firefox.exe. The message reads, “Failed to launch the application correctly (0xc0000022). Click OK to close the application.”

One user said:

After installing KB5012599, I got error 0xc0000022 when starting Edge, Firefox and Chrome, so they no longer work. Fortunately, Vivaldi and Brave work perfectly, so I can still use the internet. Removing KB5012599 solves this problem.”

The problem seems to be a conflict between the update and antivirus solutions, such as ESET. Uninstalling the recently installed OS update or resolving the conflict with the antivirus can help in this case. For example, ESET already advises to disable the “Safe Browser” LiveGrid function in the settings as a temporary measure.
