We have already repeatedly reported that Avtovaz is preparing to produce simplified versions of its cars amid a shortage of components. Now it has become known that the Granta and Niva will be followed by an “empty” version of the new Vesta NG.
According to drom.ru, externally it will already be a restyled car, but it will retain the old interior. In addition, the car will receive 8-valve engine VAZ 11182, but with a thread in the spark plug wells M14h1.25 instead of M12h1,25. Such plugs are cheaper than Renault plugs, and they are produced in Russia.
Izhevsk has already built and tested examples of the Vesta NG with this engine. In addition, we should expect the conversion of the Lada Vesta to Euro-2, the removal of all (probably except for the driver’s) airbags and the ERA-GLONASS system. As for ABS and ESP, no exact information is available yet.
The first “anti-crisis” kits of the new Lada Vesta will appear on sale in September 2022. The source writes that even these measures will not allow adding 100% localization of production.
