Starlink bypassed Russian satellite jamming systems with one line of code

At the C4ISRNET conference, Dave Tremper, head of electronic warfare at the U.S. Department of Defense, described how Starlink managed to break through Russian jammers. It turned out that to effectively counter the traditional means of REB, it was enough to add only one line of code to the Starlink system.

“The next day. [после того, как в СМИ появились данные о попытках глушения сервиса], Starlink added a line of code and fixed it,” Tremper said. – “All of a sudden this [атака] stopped being effective. From the point of view of an REB technologist, that’s fantastic … and the way they did it astounded me.”

Recall that on February 26, Ukraine’s Minister of Digital Transformation, Mikhail Fedorov, asked Ilon Musk to enable the Starlink service in Ukraine, and Musk quickly responded. A week later the first 500 sets of access to the network with free firmware were delivered to the country. At the moment, according to Mikhail Fedorov, in Ukraine already operates more than 10 thousand “plates” Starlink. Apparently, at the moment Russia has no effective means of electronic warfare against Starlink.
