Sony boosted PlayStation 5 performance with a big update

Sony has released a fresh system software update for the PlayStation 5 gaming console. The firmware number 22.01-05.02.00 is already available for PS5 users to install worldwide.

As with most firmware updates for Sony’s gaming consoles, explanations for the release are minimal and only deal with system performance improvements. However, the update may bring other changes, which the company does not disclose. This is evidenced by the impressive size of the update – about 1 GB.

Sony explains in a release note:

This system software update will improve console performance.”

System updates are usually automatically downloaded to the console. You can also download fresh firmware manually through the PS5 system settings (Settings> System> System Software> System Software Update).
