Sales of electric cars soared in Russia – more than twice as much as last year

There has been an explosive growth in sales of new electric cars without mileage in Russia. This is evidenced by the results of a study by the analytical agency Avtostat.


Russian motorists bought 262 new electric cars in March 2022, 2.1 times the March 2021 figure.

Tesla is firmly in first place in popularity, accounting for 34% of purchases or 89 cars. In second and third place are Audi with 46 cars and Porsche with 37 cars. Rounding out the top five are Mazda (20 units) and BMW (9 units).

The top five most popular models among electric cars are as follows:

  • Audi e-tron (45 pcs.).
  • Tesla Model 3 (43 pcs.).
  • Porsche Taycan (37 pcs.).
  • Tesla Model Y (34 pcs.).
  • Mazda MX-30 (20 pcs.)
