Russians can’t pay with “Mir” cards through SberPay

According to RIA Novosti news agency, contactless payment with Mir cards via smartphones using SberPay has been limited since April 13. The bank’s call center said that this is due to the decision of the technical partner.

Starting April 13, payment with smartphones with an NFC module using SberPay is limited. We are working on a new solution and will restore the service soon.

Sberbank customers can still pay with their smartphones: just link the Mir card to Mir Pay or Samsung Pay. The bank also advised to use any of Sberbank’s plastic cards.

As a reminder, last week U.S. authorities announced the imposition of full blocking sanctions against SberBank and Alfa-Bank. The U.S. blocking sanctions came into force on April 13.

Sberbank’s mobile app for iOS devices was removed from the App Store yesterday. In addition, the application for devices that run on the Android operating system is no longer available for downloading and updating in the Google Play store.
