Review of the Kitfort KT-2904 oral irrigator

We’ve already written several times that the irrigator does not cancel the toothbrush. And look how cleverly Kitfort came up with it: they added a sonic toothbrush with two nozzles to the KT-2904.

Kit

The box with the KT-2904 irrigator was larger than many appliances in this class. It is made of glossy turquoise cardboard with white lettering and inserts of “Kitforth” purple, similar to single quotes. In them on the front and back is the company’s traditional hilarious slogan – this time, “Dental hygiene is no longer a problem.” It almost rhymes.

Also on the wide sides is a schematic drawing of the irrigator as assembled and a model of it. The narrow edges are given, as usual, under the technical characteristics and marketing advantages: 10 modes of operation, the minimum and maximum values of water pressure (depending on the mode), the tank capacity of 600 ml, 7 nozzles for the irrigator and a sound toothbrush with 5 modes included.

The bottom of the box mentions information about the manufacturer, importer, service centers and special disposal mode. On one of the flaps you can find a hotline number to call if there are problems with the device.

Inside the box we found:

  • Complete device, packed in a black nylon bag and additionally protected by polyethylene
  • Toothbrush housing in separate soft plastic pouch
  • Package with nozzles for the irrigator
  • Two toothbrush attachments
  • Instructions
  • Several flyers and fact sheets
  • A nice magnet with a kitten, the company’s mascot

All packed tightly, securely and conveniently.

At first glance.

The housing of the main unit consists of three parts: the motor unit, the water tank and the container lid inside which the nozzles are stored. On the front of the device, there is a holder for the nozzle holder and a socket for the electric toothbrush, which is also the base for wireless charging. In between is a cylindrical knob that controls the irrigation modes.

There is a special recess under the handle’s attachment into which the coiled hose is tucked.

The brush body, quadrangular at the bottom, becomes smoothly cylindrical toward the top. The device is operated by a single button, under which there are LED mode indicators, invisible when the brush is off.

The irrigator comes with two nozzles with the same bristle configuration. The only difference is the color of the housing. Their design is trivial: there are no special chips that tell the brush about the configuration and life of the brush head (this is the solution we have seen in the replacement brushes for Philips Sonicare). The user will have to monitor the wear and tear of the brush heads himself.

The brushes are driven by a metal rod that oscillates audibly (31,000 movements per minute).

There is a switch on the handle of the irrigator that controls the water supply. The nozzles are attached to the body with a swivel washer, and a button located at the attachment is used to remove them.

The appliance comes with seven nozzles stored in a container lid. They differ in design and have different purposes:

  • Classic jet nozzle. is designed for daily oral care. It is a simple plastic tube, slightly curved at the end. There are three of these in the set, and each one has a different color plastic ring on it, so family members don’t get confused about which one is which.
  • У Tartar removal tips has a rubber tip that protects sensitive gums from damage. It gives a thin stream that removes plaque and tartar from under the gum.
  • Nozzle for orthodontic constructions designed to care for veneers and braces – to clean and flush out food debris from hard-to-reach areas of the teeth and around the braces.
  • Brush attachment for plaque removal with lint tip removes non-mineralized deposits on enamel.
  • Tongue Cleaner Nozzle The tongue cleaner is in the shape of a spoon – and its purpose is clear from the name.

The nozzles are stored in a container lid that covers a clear, blue-green tinted plastic water tank. On the walls we see the markings of the liquid level.

At the bottom of the tank is the valve that supplies water to the main unit.

The tank fits tightly on the base and is secured with a rubber stopper, into which the valve is inserted.

The motor unit stands on three rubber feet. Their material and design are anti-slip, so the irrigator stands firmly on the smooth wet surfaces of the bathroom.

Instructions

The Kitfort KT-2904 user manual is an A5 size brochure printed on good glossy paper. The cover is a pleasant turquoise color with a white insert, in which the slogan “Dental hygiene is no longer a problem!” is printed. Beneath these words is a schematic representation of the appliance.

The instructions have clear and comprehensible pictures that not only show what parts the device consists of and how to assemble it correctly, but also illustrate the process of proper cleaning of the mouth. The printing quality is excellent, the font is clear and easy to read.

The 19 pages detail the safety precautions for working with the device, the processes of assembly, nozzle selection, irrigator operation, maintenance, and some troubleshooting.

There is no warranty card in the set of documents, but there is a reference sheet explaining what an electronic warranty is and how it works.

Management

In this model, the water pressure is turned on and changed by means of a circular switch. When you first turn it, the irrigator turns on – at this moment, the wheel clearly clicks. The further change of modes takes place smoothly: pressure increase in the clockwise direction, decrease – in the counterclockwise direction.

The water supply to the tube is regulated by a slide switch on the handle. It works easily enough, and even with wet hands moving it is not a problem.

There is one button on the body of the toothbrush that turns it on, switches the cleaning modes in sequence, and turns it off with the last press.

The modes are illuminated in a menu located right on the body.

  • Clean – standard two-minute program
  • White – plaque removal and whitening
  • Sensitive – a program for sensitive teeth and gums
  • Massage – Gum massage
  • Gum Care – deep cleaning, gum care

The lightning bolt icon below the list is a battery charge indicator.

Operation

Before operating the irrigator, unpack it, wash the nozzles with soap and water, and the water tank and handle with clean water, running the unit on a standard cycle and directing the water jet into the sink.

The body of the device is firmly held even on very smooth surfaces: suction cups feet hold it securely in place. It is most convenient to place the device next to the sink.

The handle fits comfortably in and out of the holder: it’s easy to remove and put it back on without even looking. Nozzles are easy to insert and hold firmly. To remove the nozzle, use the blue button on the holder washer.

The button on the handle controls the water flow: even when the irrigator is turned off, water starts to flow out of the irrigator when the tank is full. To avoid leaving puddles around the device, the switch should be turned to the Off position and returned to the holder at the end of the procedure.

You should turn the water supply on and off when and only when the nozzle is already in your mouth and oriented at a 45 degree angle to the surface of the tooth or gum. If this rule is not observed, not only the owner, but also the entire bathroom will become wet. The switch is not located exactly in the mouth, so there will be no special difficulties with the inclusion of the feed. You can hold the handle with your right or left hand – it is equally comfortable.

The control knob on the body adjusts the degree of water pressure smoothly, without abrupt transitions, and allows you to fine tune the power. The scale marked from 1 to 10 serves only for information: some people will find the most comfortable pressure of 2,5, and for someone – 9¾.

This model has only one pulsation mode. It may seem uncomfortable at first, so it is better, even if you are a habitual user of this type of devices, to start with the lowest power. Teeth and gums will thank you for such care. And when you get used to it, then you can turn it on more.

You have to clean your mouth with an irrigator in a certain order: from your chewing teeth to the front teeth, directing the water jet along the gum contour and paying close attention to the spaces between your teeth. Standard brushing time is the same two minutes for both jaws, about enough time for a full tank in maximum mode. If you brush the tongue, you will have to refill the water.

The tank can be filled without removing from the body – just remove the container lid. The tank of the device is marked, and through its transparent walls it is easy to monitor the liquid level.

After cleaning, it’s best to remove the tank and let the entire irrigator dry completely. Otherwise, an unpleasant odor may occur.

We probably won’t teach you how to brush your teeth, but just in case, let’s remind you that this process is designed for two minutes minimum. This time is divided into intervals of 30 seconds: the brush alerts you when they change with a short stop.

The toothbrush is comfortable in your hand, and the control button on its body is moderately stiff: you can’t press it accidentally, and it’s easy to switch modes. It takes some effort to insert the brush head.

The first press triggers the device. The default setting on the brush is standard cleaning mode. If necessary, successive presses activate the whitening mode, the gentle cleaning mode, the massage mode and the gum care mode. They differ in vibration intensity and vibration pattern.

Two members of the family can start using the toothbrush once it is out of the package: this is the number of individual brush heads that come with it. Additional brushes can probably be purchased on the manufacturer’s website, but by the time we got acquainted with the device, we did not find them there.

The nozzles for the irrigator are conveniently stored in a container lid. The manufacturer advises to take it off and dry it completely after use. It does not have a latch, so you have to carry it carefully. The toothbrush heads must be stored separately, there is no space for them in the lid.

Care

Before washing or other maintenance the unit must be unplugged. Clean the housing with a dry or slightly damp cloth, do not immerse it in water, do not rub it with abrasives, and do not use aggressive chemicals. The same applies to the toothbrush housing.

The nozzle container and water tank can be washed with warm water and mild detergent. We recommend rinsing the tank after each use, especially if it contained mouthwash rather than water.

It is necessary to clean the tank from limescale with a special agent (use according to the instructions) or a solution of citric acid at the rate of 3 grams per 100 ml of water. This solution (200 g) should be poured into the tank and turn on the irrigator for a while. Then leave it for 20-25 minutes, turn the device back on and run all the solution through it. After cleaning, you need to rinse the tank and the handle twice with clean water.

To clean the water tank valve, you have to turn the tank upside down and push the valve down with some sharp object. Then rinse both it and the round tab on the back of the tank with water or citric acid solution and reinstall the valve.

The manufacturer recommends washing the irrigator nozzles with soap and water, and rinsing the brushes thoroughly from toothpaste residue. All nozzles should be replaced as they wear out.

Our measurements

The water tank, filled to the maximum mark, holds exactly 600 milliliters – as specified by the manufacturer.

The power consumed by the irrigator depends on the operating mode selected:

Mode Minimum Medium Maximum
Power, W 3,3 5,6 13,5

At the first “speed” the water flow rate is 195 ml/min, at the tenth speed it is 290 ml/min.

The noise emitted by the appliance also depends on the operating mode: from 60 to 67 dB(A).

The toothbrush has a very high-capacity battery: its full charge is sufficient, according to our measurements, for 97 cycles. Fully discharged brush mounted on the base takes quite a long time to charge: almost 21.5 hours.

Conclusions

We liked the Kitfort KT-2904 for its compactness and variety of nozzles – there is enough for all occasions. We should also note the pleasant design and modes of operation: the weaker ones will suit beginners and people with sensitive teeth, and the most powerful ones – for experienced users. Smooth switching will allow you to accurately adjust the water pressure.

The included electric sonic toothbrush has five modes of operation – meaning this model also allows you to pre-brush effectively and thoroughly. The brush has a very high-capacity battery and a wireless charging feature that adds to the convenience of use. Unfortunately, it only comes with two individual brush heads.

Pros:

  • electric toothbrush included
  • long battery life of the electric toothbrush
  • Convenient and easy operation
  • Infinitely variable irrigation intensity
  • Variety of nozzles in the kit
  • relatively low price

Cons:

  • Only two toothbrush tips included
