Footwear giant Nike has patented a shoe that is registered as a token (NFT) on the Ethereum blockchain.
In a patent application published Dec. 10, Nike said it plans to create unique identifiers as well as create ERC 721 tokens for certain shoes. These sneakers are called CryptoKicks.
The digital shoes are now available for purchase for cryptocurrency and feature a style-changing Skin Vial NFT for personalization. “Tokenized” sneakers from Nike are styled after the Nike Dunk design, which was first introduced as a specialized basketball shoe in the 1980s and then became a major choice as an athletic shoe for skateboarders.
At the time of the news item’s creation, the minimum price for “tokenized” shoes was 1.6 ETH on OpenSea (about $4,500). At the same time, the company put a price of 200 ETH (no more, no less – more than half a million U.S. dollars) on some instances.
