New Subaru Outback unveiled

At the New York Auto Show, Subaru unveiled the redesigned Outback crossover station wagon, which underwent a planned mid-life restyling, three years after it was announced at the same event.

The new Subaru Outback gets redesigned diode headlights, fog lights, a new front bumper and enlarged wheel arch covers. The car also got a new grille with larger “honeycombs” and a different design of wheel rims. These changes improve the level of body protection in off-road conditions, according to Subaru. At the same time, the standard version has become closer to the off-road Wilderness version, which debuted about a year ago. The rear of the car remains the same, only the reflectors are now horizontal

The updated Subaru Outback in the base version is equipped with the latest version of the EyeSight suite of safety systems, which works more smoothly and includes an automatic emergency maneuvering function at speeds up to 80 km/h. The older Touring version to the two available cameras added an additional “wide-angle mono-camera”, with which the system is better able to recognize pedestrians and cyclists. An auto-dimming rear-view mirror, compass and integrated screen have also been added.

In the U.S., the model comes with a 2.5-liter atmospheric engine with 185 hp or a turbocharged 2.4-liter engine with 264 hp. They work with a variator and all-wheel drive system.

The new Subaru Outback will hit the U.S. market this fall.
