MS Optics Sonnetar 50mm F1.3 lens with Leica M mount costs $955

Japanese craftsman Miyazaki, who produces hand-built lenses in small batches under the MS Optics brand, has created a new model, the Sonnetar 50mm F1.3, designed for cameras with Leica M mounts. Like almost all of Miyazaki’s designs, this is a very compact lens: with a diameter of 49mm and length of 36mm it weighs only 123g or 140g including the lens hood. Though, of course, it’s a far cry from the MS Optics Aporia 24mm f/2, which resembles a lens mount cover.

As the name suggests, the lens is based on the Sonnar optical scheme. It includes five elements in four groups. All elements are multi-coated to achieve 97% light transmission. Fourteen-blade aperture manufactured by Otto Niemann can take values f/1,3-f/16. Changing the aperture and focusing is done manually. The minimum focusing distance is 80 cm.
