Russia recognizes the shortage of servers and is taking measures to solve this problem. Thus, according to Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko, the Ministry of Digital is now forming a pool of vendors that will buy the required number of servers for Russian IT-companies.
For these companies, there will also be a subsidy to compensate the interest rate on a loan to buy servers. “There will be an opportunity to purchase equipment, including through reverse imports, sufficient funds have been allocated for this,” added Dmitry Chernyshenko.
Earlier in its Q1 2022 financial report, VK Group said it could face disruptions and shutdowns of certain services and services if Russia’s infrastructure could not meet the increased demand for network and server capacity supplies. In addition, VK sent a letter to the Ministry of Finance asking for help in purchasing “tens of thousands of servers”, as the company cannot find a vendor to purchase commercial batches of computing equipment needed to ensure the ongoing operation of the company’s services and for scaling the IT infrastructure.
