GitHub started blocking developers from Russia, including “Sber”, “Alfa-bank” and private individuals

The team of the largest service for hosting IT projects and their joint development GitHub began to block Russian developers – companies and individuals.

The problem was initially brought to the attention of one of the Habra users. On the morning of April 15, the accounts of “Sber”, “Sber AI” and “Alfa Bank” were blocked on GitHub. Also in social networks independent private developers, which are in no way connected with the companies hit by the U.S. sanctions, began to complain about the blocking. It is noted that the GitHub administration did not warn them in any way and did not explain the reasons for the blocking.

Sber’s press service told reporters that open-source projects will be moved to other platforms and access to them will remain.

In early March, GitHub stated its intention to preserve Russian developers’ access to the service.
