Eight thousand luxury cars stuck in Belgian port because of sanctions against Russia

According to Gazeta.ru, citing a publication of The Wall Street Journal, about eight thousand luxury cars, including Lexus, Cadillac and Mercedes, were stuck at the port of Zeebrugge in Belgium. The cars were on their way to Russia, but did not reach their destination due to sanctions.

The cars arrived in Belgium from Asia in the first week of April, after which they were to be shipped to Russia. The director of the port’s car terminal, Marc Adriensen, explained that the cars fell under the ban on luxury goods, which restricts the export of vehicles to Russia over €50,000. What will happen to the cars now is not reported.

Also at the port were other goods that cannot be sent to Russia. Thus, according to the port officials, more than 1,000 containers bound for Russia have been stopped. Similar measures have been taken in other European export centers.
