Are cars with reduced requirements the new reality of modern Russia?

According to TASS, the Ministry of Industry and Trade suggested that under sanctions, companies in Russia should be allowed to produce cars with reduced requirements, including environmental requirements, until February 1, 2023.

The Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade has drafted a regulation approving rules for the conformity assessment of wheeled vehicles released during a special period, which will allow the release of vehicles with simplified requirements, including those relating to the environment.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade noted that such a period is proposed until February 1, 2023, and if necessary, it can be extended. It is also noted that this will increase the production of cars and expand their range on sale.

Earlier Kommersant reported that Russia may temporarily allow cars of all environmental classes, including Euro-0, to be produced, while the US, Europe and Japan gave up such cars 30 years ago. You can find more details about this in our previous article.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade confirmed that the corresponding draft document has been submitted to the Russian government.
